Meet Tomo Swan
FOUNDER & DESIGNER, TOMO DESIGN LAB ℠
Learning Skills
My mother is a seamstress and my grandmother was a Kimono maker. Under their great tutelage, I began my sewing journey at the tender age of 5.
I made my grand leap from Japan to California in 2005 to study Fashion Design and Merchandising at Santa Ana College. Since graduating, I’ve spent over a decade working in the Fashion & Garment Industry.
Starting a Business
In 2016, I launched TS Design Lab℠ to provide local, high-quality, custom-made garments and accessories for dancers and musicians. Notable clients include Rhythmic Fusion Dance Company, ExC Dance Company, On2ourage and Nadia Vaeh. I am also responsible for the design, repair and maintenance of dancer Janell Burgess’ wardrobe for KC and the Sunshine Band, as well as Love Is Religion.
In 2019, Tomo Design Lab℠ became the exclusive house costumer of Southern California’s renowned Jazz Spectrum Dance Company.
As a quick response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I started a face mask line, TomoMasks.com to provide washable, comfortable and stylish personal protective masks.
Takumi Quality
In Japanese culture “Takumi/ 匠 ”refers to an artisan. Someone who has a profession or skill they have mastered over years of dedication, training, and practice. This way of life can be applied to all professions; from sushi chef to potter, from carpenter to kimono maker.
In my family, the philosophy of Takumi was part of my life. I have poured my life experience and all my skill into making TAKUMI quality garments and masks. I always put my wishes that my customers will enjoy the time to wear my products. Sometimes it can uplift their moods, upgrade their days, and live happier. Wearing comfortable items is the most important attitude for all of us to make us relaxed and enjoy just being ourselves. I always do my best to provide that comfort to my customers.
My aim is for you to enjoy my products.
